Market Debrief (Tuesday April 12, 2022)

Happy Tuesday Stock Talkers!   Stocks fell in the last hour of the trading session to finish down for the second day in a row. Consumer Price Index came out today at and 8.5% (YOY) increase beating expectations of 8.4%. This is the highest level we have seen in four decades. Investors started off the day seeing this as sort of a win, due to the fact that this is probably the peak that we will see inflation rise too. That all fell apart towards the end of the day though, as consumers still dread the rising prices of pretty much every good possible. We can only really rely on the Federal Reserve to implement proper policy corrections for this to ease. There's so much speculation riding around all of the policy decisions as well as when we are going to see an end to all of this. Unfortunately, with no clarity looming right now, investors are stuck wondering and contemplating all the "what if" scenarios, because right now it seems as if the market can turn so many different w

Market Debrief (Monday April 11, 2022)

Happy Monday Stock Talkers! Stocks fell by a large margin to start out the week as we dive into the start of the corporate earnings season. Investors are still awaiting more economic data to come out from the Federal Reserve, as they plan to accelerate their curbing of inflation. The Consumer Price Index is coming out tomorrow, and it is expected to come out at 8.4% (YOY) growth, which is the largest growth we have seen since 1982. On the note of tech stocks, investors are worried about these small companies getting hit hard by the hiking of the interest rates. I think tech stocks are beside the point, and a lot of people are overlooking some very valuable companies. If you are heavy into tech stocks and understand some of these businesses, then I think you can acquire some of these companies for a pretty solid price. We will get a good preview of how these big corporations were able to handle all the inflation and supply-chain issues with fresh quarterly reports coming out from them

Market Debrief (Friday April 8, 2022)

Happy Friday Stock Talkers! Stocks finished the week mixed, as the Dow Jones was the only major index trading higher. Investors are still eyeing the next policy moves that will be made by the Federal Reserve. Some of the members of the Fed gave their input on Friday, with James Bullard saying that he wants the rates to be near 3% to 3.25% in the second half of this year. With some other things that were mentioned Friday, investors got some clarity that positive things are still happening in the economy. It seemed as if we were going to reach another sell off phase in the middle of this week, when the Fed came out with their plan to cut assets off the balance sheet as well as get aggressive with interest rate hikes. With some clarity and some positive things actually happening, maybe we can see an increase in stock prices next week. We just see a lot of uncertainty at this time, but equity markets have the potential to get back to record highs as the uncertainty subsides and we get som

Market Debrief (Thursday April 7, 2022)

Happy Thursday Stock Talkers! Stocks had a major come back on Thursday, after trading lower for most of the day. All three major indices ended positive on the day as investors feared a 3 day-losing streak. Investors are still digesting the hawkish comments by the Fed yesterday, coming out and saying they were going to shrink the balance sheet. This task is going to be very difficult for the Fed to conquer as they try to hike interest rates as well. I feel like the next couple of months will be shaky for investors as we try to return to normal price levels and somewhat of a normal economy. The jobless claims report came out today, and lets just say that the job market is on fire right now. Jobless claims came in at 166k which 200k was expected. While there are many sectors that are on fire in the economy, we as investors will probably stay weary, due to the fact that anything can really happen at this point. Market Debrief (Wednesday April 6, 2022)

Happy Wednesday Stock Talkers! Stocks were down once again Wednesday, as investors were closely following the remarks made by The Fed. The Fed was apparent on raising interest rates at more aggressive levels, but came out today and said that it will start shrinking assets off the balance sheet at a rate of $95B a month. Investors also saw that the U.S. announced some more sanctions against Russia. They added more penalties to government officials and family members and also implemented more sanctions on Russian-owned businesses and financial institutions. Developments were made yesterday that a recession could appear next year.
