Market Debrief (Thursday March 31, 2022)

Happy Thursday Stock Talkers! Major indices suffered some major declines on Thursday, which closed out the first quarter of 2022. This was the first quarter that major indices finished down since 2020. A lot of weight on todays trading was based on Biden's announcement to release oil from the reserves to try and mitigate spiking gas prices. His plan consists of releasing 1 million barrels of oil a day starting in May and continuing this trend for 6 months. This will be interesting to see how it pans out, as our president has put the blame on Putin for the rising energy prices and claims we don't have the necessary resources to supply our oil at reasonable prices. In positive news, April has been a historically favorable month for stocks over the past decade and a half. Investors gained some optimism with a 4 day winning streak appearing at the beginning of the week, but two back to back days of losses bring back a fear of volatility in the market. I and all other investors are

Happy Wednesday Stock Talkers! Stocks finished lower today to end the 4-day winning streak they had going for them. S&P and Dow finished with mediocre declines while Nasdaq plummeted over 1%. Oil prices traded higher for the first time in 3 days as deescalation of the war seems to be the hope of everyone. The 10-year Treasury note yields and the 2-year Treasury note yields briefly intervened yesterday, which if history repeats itself, could be a sign of a recession. In other news, Apple has come out with plans to create its own payment platform system, which caused other small online payment companies to take a hit. This could be a make or break situation for a lot of these smaller companies due to the fact that a lot of them rely on these stingy little payments to fund their entire business. Some of them even have partnerships with Apple, and those could be cutoff if Apple is successful in creating their own payment platform.  Major Indices:      S&P 500      4,602.45  -29.15

Happy Tuesday Stock Talkers! Stocks recorded another day of gains on Tuesday, as investors weighed the news of "peace talks" between Russia and Ukraine happening in Instanbul. Names like Tesla, Amazon, and Apple have all seen gains over the past month bring their YTD gains back into positive territories. We are seeing earnings estimates come in higher, which is seen as a strong sign for the recovery of the economy. Economic data was released about jobs in the US, we saw vacancies decrease a little bit, but companies are still having a tough time bringing sidelined workers back into the workforce. The peace talks seem to be the hottest topic, if we can gain ceasefire in the war overseas, we can be in for some glory with the market. We will also continue to monitor some of the economic data still to be presented this week. Market Debrief (Monday March 28, 2022)

Happy Monday Stock Talkers! Stocks kicked off the week on a positive note as Big Tech stocks boosted gains. We have seen two straight weeks of gains, and look to continue the winning streak. This is a defining week for the Fed as some key economic data will be released. This will impact how aggressive the Fed will act towards its plans to raise interest rates. Oil saw its biggest drop in two weeks as Shanghai lockdown shows demand fears. A lot of major economic predictors are starting to prepare for a 0.5 bps hike as investor sentiment is starting to become back to normal. The volatility has seemed to subside in the past two weeks as investors are starting to see through the war overseas and Big Tech starting to recover from losses in the first two months. Amazon ($AMZN) was actually the first mega stock to pare losses for the year, and Apple ($AAPL) has seen a 10 day winning streak, which is its longest in a decade. This should be an interesting week for investors, I'm hoping for

Market Debrief (Thursday March 24, 2022)

Happy Thursday Stock Talkers! Stocks have flip flopped from gains and losses this week. Today showed strong gains among all the major indices. Investors are still weighing information from the Fed and the war in Ukraine. Sentiment was positive on the market today, so investors saw the bright side through these situations. The US announced that it will increase sanctions against Russia, in which they will target members of Russia parliament and central bank. We also announced that we would be able to take in 100,000 Ukrainian refugees to ease a little bit of the refugee crisis overseas. The United States also pledged to donate $1 Billion in supplies to help out Ukraine. In Russian news, the market opened again for the first time in a month. The Central Bank in Russia banned the short-selling of stocks and will not allow foreign investors to sell stocks. This was a little skeptical, but seems like some hope for the Russians to stay afloat economically. We have now surpassed the two year

Market Debrief (Wednesday March 23, 2022)

Happy Wednesday Stock Talkers! Wednesday was another day of losses for the major indices, as Dow saw a drop of nearly 450 points. Oil prices continued to climb, showing increases of the past couple of days. Where investors are still contemplating how to feel about the Fed possibly taking a more aggressive approach to hiking interest rates. Stocks to seem to keep fluctuating in price as we lack clarity in monetary policy as well as the war and its effects on the global economy. In other news, we saw the "meme" stocks take off again today. This could be a start to another run, or it could just be due to the fact that one big investor chose to put a huge amount of money into GameStop. This almost seems as he could be manipulating the stock, which could lead to detrimental consequences.  Major Indices:      S&P 500      4,456.24 -55.37 (-1.23%) DJI              34,358.50 -448.96 (1.29%) Nasdaq        13,922.60 -186.21 (-1.32%) Most Active Stocks (Volume): AMC Entertainment H

Q2 FY22 Outlook: Revenue of $4.34B  EPS of $3.30 Adobe halted sales in Russia and Belarus, they said they expect a $75M revenue impact in FY22.  Opinion: Adobe Inc. is a company that has been around in the software industry for a while. They are currently trading slightly down after reporting earnings. I think this has to do with cutting ties in Russia and Belarus and the expected revenue drop in doing so. They show a pretty strong expectation for revenue in the next quarter but EPS is expected to co

Market Debrief (Tuesday March 22, 2022)

Happy Tuesday Stock Talkers! Stocks rebounded from yesterdays losses, as Nasdaq saw a nearly 2% advance. It seems as investors shook off the remarks from Jerome Powell yesterday, with all eyes focused on the war in Ukraine. I think we should be a little nervous due to the fact that the yield curve is shifting and showing the short-term and long-term potentially overlapping each other. History shows that these instances can lead to an economic recession. Also, we could see grocery bills start to surge in the next couple of months, due to the fact that Ukraine (who produced 25% of wheat supply) might miss their planting season due to the war. This could be another surge of inflation in the United States as well as other countries that rely on Ukraine for wheat. I'm glad that we saw gains, especially in the Tech sector. Amazon is now only down 1% YTD, so some of these companies that suffered serious losses in the first two months of the year are starting to become afloat and picking

Market Debrief (Monday March 21, 2022)

Happy Monday Stock Talkers! Stocks showed declines today, breaking a 5 day winning streak for the Dow Jones 500. The main dictation of the move in stocks today was from the news that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell would adjust the policy as needed. This would mean that the hike in interest rates would be sped up and could see a 0.5bps change instead of a 0.25bps. Energy and commodity prices went back to increasing today amid the latest actions in the Russian War. Crude Oil saw increases of 6% back to $111 a barrel, with Brent Crude rising to about $114 a barrel. With the central bank's monetary policy starting to become more clearer last week, we have seen a sign of strength in the economy. The Fed has also signaled to start quantitative tightening and roll off assets of its $9 trillion balance sheet. With signs of stock prices rising last week, I look for investors to focus merely on the war and Fed decisions, as this week has few major companies reporting earnings. Major In

Market Debrief (Tuesday March 15, 2022)

Happy Tuesday Stock Talkers! Investor sentiment was extremely high today, as all major indices saw some massive gains. Oil prices dropped once again today, which has been a contrast to the fears that oil prices would skyrocket due to the war in Ukraine. Oil prices have seen a 27% decline since reaching all time highs at $130.50 a barrel last week. The main reason investor sentiment soared today was due to the fact that the U.S. producer prices were unchanged for the first time in a year, which is a sign that inflation may be shifting to a little more easing on prices. We are also expecting that the interest rate hike will occur this week, which would put interest rates above near-zero levels for the first time since 2018. This will be something to watch out for in the next couple of days. On the other side of the world, a covid outbreak has seen to taken place in China, causing investors to digest and assess. This could also be something to keep an eye out for as it develops. I loved t

Market Debrief (Thursday March 10, 2022)

Happy Friday Stock Talkers! Stocks declined in the final day of trading this week, marking the 5th straight weeks of loses. U.S. consumer sentiment was reported this morning as it deteriorated more than expected, while consumer inflation estimates are coming in at the highest levels since 1981. Crude oil saw a little increase today, after a major tumble yesterday. CPI reports yesterday showed that inflation has rose to 7.9% year-over-year. Controversy has impeded consumers and workers, as businesses are investing more and more in businesses, workers are unhappy that wages aren't increasing. With prices and inflation rising to levels that we haven't seen in a while, investors are fearing an upcoming recession in the economy. Next week will likely bring more volatility in the market, but as an investor, we can only sit back and watch. Market Debrief (Wednesday March 9, 2022)

Happy Wednesday Stock Talkers! Finally, a sign of relief for investors, as all major indices saw major gains on Wednesday. The S&P 500 saw its best day since 2020, and Nasdaq was up by a whopping 3.59%. The volatility index (VIX) showed a drop by 10% as stocks rose today. Oil prices also saw a sharp decline today to stray away from 14 year highs. However, this had no relief on consumers, as gas prices rose to new highs all over the United States. The bad part about these rising gas prices, is that it can really affect inflation even more. Costs for shipping and moving items around are going to increase in cost, so the product you are actually purchasing is going to have to increase to cover the increasing transportation costs. Unfortunately, I do not think this rise in stocks is going to be a common theme for a while. This was a unique day, in my opinion. However, tomorrow is going to say a lot about the current standing of the market. The CPI numbers will be released tomorrow and

Market Debrief (Tuesday March 8, 2022)

Happy Tuesday Stock Talkers! Stocks saw slight declines today as indices enter into correction ranges. President Joe Biden announced that the United States will ban imports on oil and energy from Russia. This caused investors to worry about gas prices heightening and inflation worsening. WTI crude oil futures were around $124 as it continually rises, it wouldn't be surprising to see it hit $150 a barrel soon. We could also see further disruptions in the supply chain as the war continues to go on. This is causing investors to see a rise in inflation rather than inflation easing due to the interest rate hikes about to be put in place. The hot topic of the day was the commodity Nickel, it was halted for trading on the London Metal Exchange as it rose over $100,000 per metric ton. Apparently there was a short squeeze on the commodity due to supply concerns over the war. From my point-of-view, this seems more like a wait and play kind of game with the market. Market Debrief (Monday March 7, 2022)

Happy Monday Stock Talkers!      Stocks saw major declines to start the week, as all of the major indices decreased significantly. Investors are fearful of inflation rising and the damage the economy will face from the war in Ukraine. Consumers have seen the price of gas rise to significantly high levels over the past week. Prices of oil reached $130 yesterday evening, and I believe this is one of the reasons Investors fear inflation rising. As we see the prices of a lot of consumer goods increasing, I think a recession could be impending. The United States and European Union are in talks about cutting its ties with Russia for energy supply. This won't affect the United States, as we only rely on Russia for about 8% of energy. However, this could be detrimental for some countries apart of the EU, a lot of them are heavily dependent on Russia for its energy supply. I believe this is one of the main explanations for the increase in the energy prices currently. Banking stocks saw som
